Why the smell always comes back
Almost every bad car smell has a physical source sitting in the upholstery. Milk, vomit and pet accidents soak straight through the seat fabric into the foam underneath, and the foam holds it. Bacteria feed on what is in there, and that is what you can smell weeks later.
Spraying an air freshener over it adds a second smell on top of the first. Shampooing the surface cleans what you can see and leaves the foam untouched. Both are why the problem keeps coming back on a hot day with the windows up.
The fix is deep extraction of dirt and debris. We inject a cleaning solution under pressure, agitate it through the fibres and into the foam, then pull the whole lot back out with a vacuum strong enough to lift the moisture with it. That removes the source rather than diluting it.
For smells with no single spill behind them, like cigarette smoke or mould from a leaking seal, we treat the whole cabin with ozone. Ozone oxidises odour molecules throughout the space, including inside the vents and headliner where nothing else reaches.

Vomit
Car sickness, a rough night, a sick kid. It soaks into the foam fast and the acid can mark the fabric, so the sooner we get to it the better the result.
Spilled milk
The worst of the lot, and the one people leave longest. Milk in warm foam turns rancid and the smell is genuinely hard to live with. Fully recoverable with extraction.
Coffee, soft drink and food
The everyday ones. Coffee and cola stain quickly on light fabric, and food ground into carpet needs agitation before it will lift.
Pet accidents
Urine soaks deep and the ammonia smell intensifies in heat. Needs full extraction and usually an enzyme treatment on top.
Smoke
Cigarette smoke coats every surface including the headliner and the inside of the vents. Surface cleaning plus ozone is the only thing that genuinely shifts it.
Mould and damp
Usually a leaking seal or a window left open in a storm. We treat the mould, but tell us so you can get the leak fixed, or it will simply come back.

One word "Sublime" I had an accident, I had left a full glass bottle of rum in the front seat of my kia stinger on a very hot day .... and you can guess what happened, yes it cracked in half & all the rum soaked into the seat & onto the carpet underneath. I mopped it up best I could & carpet cleaned it twice but still the smell of rum was still there, yuk. Until Nathan from High Shine detailed my interior. My car was recently broken into and oil sprayed throughout, along with forensics dust from the qps and months of neglecting to clean my children occupied car. I booked in for an urgent detail, unfortunately due to time constraints it wasn't able to be completed the first go around (our office closes at 430), Zaak called to check in on how the clean went and I mentioned a couple of things that still needed cleaning and he was quick to send grace back out to complete the job as soon as they had the chance. I called on Monday and the team arrived the next day. I purchased a commercial truck that previous owner had dogs that would travel with him. Dog hair was throughout the truck cabin and Matt didn’t hesitate to get stuck in. After two hours the job was done and the truck had never looked so good without a dog hair in sight. As a fleet owner of commercial trucks, this level of service was far beyond what I expect from most of the photos they provided was on cars. "Interior Restoration" & "Vent Flush" I was really worried about my Grandkids being in the car & thought I definitely needed a professional to do the interior of my daughter's car. Massive thank you to the High Shine Club. Zaak was excellent and explained the deep clean sevice I wanted done on a 2025 Toyota Hiace Van. He was very professional., and excellent customer service. I have an immaculate BMWX3 which has been maintained by me until my health deteriorated. I made an appointment with High Shine to take over my car cleaning. Zac and Lawrence worked on our two cars today, the heat was incredible but that didn't phase them. Could not be happier with the result. My Pajero is over 15 years old, and the paint had accumulated its fair share of swirl marks, I honestly did not expect it to come up this well. The team did a fantastic job; the paint now has a deep gloss and mirror-like finish that makes the vehicle look years younger. Even the wheels, tyres, and engine bay were finished to a very high standard. Highly recommended.

Stain and odour FAQ
Can you get vomit smell out completely?
In the large majority of cases, yes. Deep extraction pulls it out of the foam rather than cleaning around it, which is what makes the difference. If it has been sitting for months in a hot car we will be straight with you about the odds before we start.
How soon should I book after a spill?
As soon as you can. Milk, vomit and urine all get worse with time and heat, because bacteria multiply in the foam. A same-week booking is the difference between an easy job and a hard one, and we do offer same-day where we can.
Will the stain come out or just the smell?
Usually both. Fresh spills come out completely. Older stains on light fabric sometimes leave a faint shadow even once the smell is entirely gone. We will tell you honestly what we expect before we start.
What is ozone treatment?
A machine that fills the cabin with ozone gas, which oxidises odour molecules everywhere in the space, including in the vents and headliner. It is what we use for smoke and mould, where the smell is not coming from one spot you can point at.
Can you fix a mouldy car?
Yes, and it is more common than people think after a Brisbane storm season. We treat the mould and remove the smell. Get the water leak fixed as well, though, or it will grow back.
