The first 48 hours decide the outcome
Car interiors are built in layers: carpet on top, thick foam underlay beneath, sound deadening and metal below that. Water goes straight through the carpet and sits in the underlay, where it is invisible and where air will not reach it.
Mould starts growing in 24 to 48 hours in Brisbane's climate. Before that window closes the job is extraction and drying. After it, the job becomes mould remediation, which costs considerably more and does not always fully succeed. If your car has taken water, the single most useful thing you can do is call today rather than next week.
Opening the doors and pointing a fan at it is not enough. Surface carpet dries in hours and feels fine to the touch while the underlay underneath stays saturated for weeks. That is why so many water-damaged cars smell fine for a fortnight and then turn.
One important limit. If your car has been through genuine flood water rather than rain, and water reached the seats or the dash, that is an insurance and mechanical assessment before it is a detailing job. Flood water carries sewage and contaminants, and submerged wiring and airbag modules are not something a detail fixes. We will be straight with you about which situation you are in.
How we dry a car properly
Getting the water out is the whole job. Everything else follows from it.
Deep extraction
Commercial wet extraction pulls water out of the carpet and the foam underlay beneath, which is where the water actually sits and where a domestic vacuum cannot reach.
Lift where needed
On a heavily soaked car, seats and carpet come up so the underlay and floor pan can dry properly. Half measures here are why cars go mouldy a month later.
Forced drying
Air movers and controlled airflow through the cabin, not an open door and hope. Our Salisbury shop is genuinely better for this because we can leave it running.
Antimicrobial treatment
Applied while everything is still open and accessible, to stop mould and bacteria taking hold in the material we have just wet.
Odour treatment
Ozone through the sealed cabin once dry, which handles the musty smell that always follows water and reaches the vents you cannot get to.

One word "Sublime" I had an accident, I had left a full glass bottle of rum in the front seat of my kia stinger on a very hot day .... and you can guess what happened, yes it cracked in half & all the rum soaked into the seat & onto the carpet underneath. I mopped it up best I could & carpet cleaned it twice but still the smell of rum was still there, yuk. Until Nathan from High Shine detailed my interior. My car was recently broken into and oil sprayed throughout, along with forensics dust from the qps and months of neglecting to clean my children occupied car. I booked in for an urgent detail, unfortunately due to time constraints it wasn't able to be completed the first go around (our office closes at 430), Zaak called to check in on how the clean went and I mentioned a couple of things that still needed cleaning and he was quick to send grace back out to complete the job as soon as they had the chance. I called on Monday and the team arrived the next day. I purchased a commercial truck that previous owner had dogs that would travel with him. Dog hair was throughout the truck cabin and Matt didn’t hesitate to get stuck in. After two hours the job was done and the truck had never looked so good without a dog hair in sight. As a fleet owner of commercial trucks, this level of service was far beyond what I expect from most of the photos they provided was on cars. "Interior Restoration" & "Vent Flush" I was really worried about my Grandkids being in the car & thought I definitely needed a professional to do the interior of my daughter's car. Zaak was excellent and explained the deep clean sevice I wanted done on a 2025 Toyota Hiace Van. He was very professional., and excellent customer service. I have an immaculate BMWX3 which has been maintained by me until my health deteriorated. I made an appointment with High Shine to take over my car cleaning. Zac and Lawrence worked on our two cars today, the heat was incredible but that didn't phase them. Could not be happier with the result. My Pajero is over 15 years old, and the paint had accumulated its fair share of swirl marks, I honestly did not expect it to come up this well. The team did a fantastic job; the paint now has a deep gloss and mirror-like finish that makes the vehicle look years younger. Water damage FAQ
How quickly do I need to act?
Within 48 hours if you can. Mould begins growing in Brisbane's climate inside one to two days, and before that point the job is drying rather than remediation. Call us the same day if possible, even if we can only get to you tomorrow.
Can't I just leave the doors open to dry it out?
It helps, but it is not enough on its own. The carpet surface dries quickly while the foam underlay underneath stays saturated for weeks. That trapped moisture is what turns into mould and odour later.
My car went through flood water. Can you fix it?
Depends how deep. If water reached the seats or the dash, you need an insurance assessment and a mechanical check first, because flood water carries contaminants and submerged electrics are a safety issue. For water that stayed in the footwells, we can usually recover the interior. We will tell you honestly which one you have.
Will the smell come back?
Not if the car is dried properly and the water source is fixed. Smell returning is the classic sign that moisture was left in the underlay, which is exactly what our process is designed to prevent.
Is this covered by insurance?
Often, particularly for storm and flood events. Take photos before anything is touched and check with your insurer. We are happy to give you a written quote to submit.
